Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Corton-Charlemagne 2019
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a transcendent monument of white Burgundy, capturing the majestic intersection of a legendary Grand Cru hill and one of the Côte de Beaune’s most brilliant modern vignerons. Sourced from high-elevation, chalk-dominant parcels high on the hill of Corton, Pierre-Yves Colin (PYCM) crafts this iconic Chardonnay with meticulous hands-off intervention. To preserve maximum purity, raw tension, and vineyard detail, the wine is aged without bâtonnage (lees stirring) in custom 350-litre oak barrels, minimizing wood influence while allowing its formidable structure to take centre stage.
In the glass, it opens with an intoxicating, highly complex bouquet: notes of lemon oil, crisp green apple, and white peach intermingle with crushed flint, wet slate, roasted hazelnut, and delicate white blossoms. On the palate, it strikes an extraordinary balance of sheer physical power and weightless, crystalline precision. A dense, broad core of golden citrus, lime leaf, and subtle toasted spice is driven by a laser-like beam of electric natural acidity and a firm, mouthcoating chalky minerality. Finished under PYCM’s signature thick wax seal to ensure slow, pristine oxidation, this is a benchmark collector’s bottle built to cellar for 15 to 20+ years.
