Lorenzo Accomasso Barolo Riserva Rocche dell'Annunziata 2013
Lorenzo Accomasso has been active since the 1950s, always following an independent and traditional approach, avoiding invasive techniques to allow the wine to reflect the character of the vintage and the terroir. He's something of a legendary, reclusive figure in Barolo — his wines are produced in extremely limited quantities, making them cult objects among Barolo enthusiasts and collectors. His winery, founded in the 1950s, is one of the most artisanal and traditional estates in the Langhe, where time seems to have stood still in favour of an intimate, respectful interpretation of Nebbiolo.
The 2013 Riserva is a style of Barolo meant to be enjoyed mature, with a whole complement of tertiary notes that develop over long ageing. It is elegant, refined, and generous — still considered young given its tremendous evolutionary potential, with tannins that are present but fresh. You'd be well placed to cellar this for another decade or more
In short — a genuinely rare, traditionally made Barolo from one of the appellation's great craftsmen in what was a superb vintage. Well worth any opportunity to taste or acquire it.
