Faiveley Vosne-Romanee 2005
Faiveley has been rooted in Burgundy for seven generations and is the largest family-owned domaine in the region. Its Vosne-Romanée is a village-level wine from parcels across the appellation, on limestone and clay-marl soils with an ideal eastern exposure, farmed organically and managed in-house so that the domaine controls quality from vine to bottle. The fruit is hand-harvested and sorted on arrival, then aged 14–16 months in French oak, about a third of it new. Vosne-Romanée was renamed in 1866 for its famous Romanée vineyard and is one of the most celebrated villages in the Côte de Nuits, home to Romanée-Conti and La Tâche.
The result is an elegant, perfumed village Pinot Noir. A ruby colour with real intensity leads to red cherry, raspberry, strawberry and violet, with clove, light oak and a touch of earthy forest floor. The palate is supple and fruity, with silky tannins and good length, and some vintages show black cherry, wet earth and mineral notes.
