Domaine Francois Mikulski Meursault 1er Cru Les Poruzots 2013
François Mikulski is one of the most admired small growers in Meursault, and Les Poruzots is the Premier Cru that shows his style at its most polished. His approach is built around purity. As he has put it, Burgundy should be marked by its precision, because overripeness can be found anywhere. The vineyard faces east, and the fruit comes from vines around 50 years old, farmed organically. The wine is aged for about 18 months in French oak, with only a modest amount of new wood (around 20% in 2017), so the oak stays in the background. The domaine’s own notes describe Poruzots as the most elegant and fine of his Premiers Crus, more feminine in style, with an appealing minerality in every vintage.
The result is a Meursault of richness without heaviness. Citrus oil, honeysuckle, white flowers and almond paste open the nose, with hazelnut, ginger and a touch of white pepper, and then a chalky, flinty mineral note. On the palate there is ripe peach and pear, lemon butter and crushed stone, with a silky texture and a long, energetic, saline finish.
