It is a site that wavers very little in more difficult vintages and excels in the great ones—this is the backbone of By Farr wines. The alluring characters of this vineyard, combined with red fruits, whole bunch, acidity and oak, have produced a beautifully interwoven expression of site and vintage. That’s what it’s all about.

Sangreal is the estate's founding vineyard, planted in 1994 on a north-facing slope of bluestone and limestone with red ironstone at the surface — soil unlike anything else on the property. This is the block Gary planted first, straight off the back of his Burgundy "apprenticeship", and it remains the clearest expression of that Dujac-trained instinct: whole-bunch, native-yeast winemaking built entirely around what the site gives you. Full sun exposure and north-south row orientation produce the most perfumed, open and seductive of the three single-vineyard Pinots, with silky texture and a long, elegant finish. It's the first vineyard picked each vintage and remains the natural entry point for guests discovering the sublime wines of By Farr for the first time.
