Anne et Jean-Francois Ganevat Vin de France La Bibine 2019

A masterfully unconventional creation, "La Bibine" is a 100% Syrah sourced from prized old vines on the granite-laced soils of the southern Mâconnais (Burgundy) and vinified by the Ganevat siblings in the Jura. True to their natural philosophy, the wine is fermented with native yeasts, aged for a year in neutral oak barrels, and bottled completely unfined and unfiltered with zero added sulfur. The result is a delightfully fresh, low-alcohol red that cheekily behaves more like an energetic, "pinot-esque" light red than a traditional heavyweight Rhône Syrah—complete with a very subtle, natural touch of initial prickle (perlant) on the palate that adds a thirst-quenching crunch.

In the glass, it pours a vibrant, translucent ruby-purple. The nose opens with a wild and fragrant bouquet of tart red cranberries, crunchy raspberries, and fresh violet flowers, beautifully accented by typical Syrah notes of freshly cracked black pepper and a hint of wild herbs. On the palate, it is light-to-medium-bodied and incredibly high-toned, offering a juicy wave of red-fruit energy that is chiseled by a bracing line of refreshing, lip-smacking acidity. It finishes completely clean, dry, and mineral, leaving behind a subtle smoky and peppery trail that screams for food.
