Domaine de la Cote Pinot Noir DDLC Estate 2021

Regular price $222.00

Domaine de la Côte 'DDLC' Estate Pinot Noir is the brilliant, highly sought-after core bottling that defines the overarching identity of Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman's groundbreaking Sta. Rita Hills estate. Sourced entirely from their 40 acres of organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards on the extreme, windswept western edge of the appellation, this "Estate" cuvée serves as a beautiful synthesis of the property’s diverse micro-terroirs. The vines grow in a complex geological matrix of ancient, lifted marine sediment and fractured Monterey shale, heavily top-layered with sandy clay loam. To capture the pure, structural energy of this chilly, fog-dominated maritime site, winemaking follows an uncompromisingly minimalist blueprint. The fruit undergoes a slow, spontaneous fermentation driven entirely by indigenous wild yeasts, utilizing a massive component of whole clusters (typically 50% to 100% depending on the vintage) for aromatic lift and stemmy structural architecture. It is then aged patiently in neutral French oak barrels with minimal to zero new wood, ensuring the pure, coastal mineral energy remains entirely unmasked.

In the glass, it pours a beautifully translucent, vibrant ruby-rose color with soft magenta glints at the rim. The nose is instantly explosive, high-toned, and deeply savory, unlocking an expressive bouquet of wild strawberries, sour red cherries, and pomegranate, intricately layered with signature whole-cluster nuances of freshly cracked white pepper, stemmy green tobacco leaf, dried rose petals, and a touch of wild thyme. On the palate, the wine delivers a masterclass in weightless density, athletic tension, and vertical drive. A vibrant, incredibly focused core of crunchy red berry fruit completely enlivens the mouth, effortlessly supported by an ultra-fine, chalky network of youthfully solid tannins and a razor-sharp line of cool-climate natural acidity. The underlying marine shale bedrock asserts itself on the mid-palate, introducing a deeply tactile mineral weight and a persistent wave of mouth-watering, maritime salinity. It finishes bone-dry, exceptionally clean, and persistent, leaving behind an elegant, lingering trail of blood orange rind, white pepper, and a tight, mineral-infused grip.
