Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Colonnello 2012
Colonnello is the most floral of the three Bussia vineyards — closest in style and weight to a La Morra, where elegance and aromatic lift take precedence over structure and density. It is the wine that wins people over earliest, the most generous and approachable of the trio — without being any less serious.
Colonnello is a determined, confident wine with a rich, succulent style — ripe aromas of blackberry, spice, sweet vanilla and polished black stone leading to a chewy, opulent palate that is enduring on the finish. With time in the glass, classic Barolo notes emerge — wet leather, sweet licorice, immense density — drinking well now with no urgency to rush the remaining bottles. Bottles opened recently show cherries, roses and licorice — very well balanced, everything in its right place
