Jean-Francois Ganevat Poulsard Les Chalasses Vieille Vigne 2022
Les Chalasses Vieilles Vignes is one of the most singular expressions of Poulsard anywhere in the Jura — a single-vineyard cuvée from a terroir whose name appears across several of Ganevat's most celebrated white wines, here turned toward an entirely different and equally compelling end. A single-vineyard Poulsard from approximately 50-year-old vines, hand-picked from perfect grapes followed by spontaneous fermentation in old 500-litre demi-muid barrels, with long fermentation and long ageing and no additives whatsoever. The vines grow on a terroir of grey marl, vinified naturally over two years in demi-muids with indigenous yeasts, no fining, no filtration and no added sulphur. Jean-François Ganevat — known as Fanfan — makes wine with the inspired magic of an alchemist, and this cuvée is among the clearest proof of it.
Incredibly refreshing, supple and sapid — both the nose and palate burst with rosehip, peony, blood orange and grapefruit. Spicy and quirky: Ganevat in a nutshell. The nose carries aromas of flowers — peony, violet — and red fruits, redcurrant and raspberry, with spice notes; the palate suave, all finesse and air, with silky tannins and a mineral frame, finishing on persistent freshness.
