Jean-Francois Ganevat Pinot Noir Les Grands Teppes 2020
Les Grands Teppes is among the most celebrated lieux-dits across the entire Ganevat portfolio — a name that appears across multiple grape varieties but as a Pinot Noir produces one of the most compelling red wines in the Jura. A Pinot Noir of rare precision, showcasing the Jura terroir's unique character with grace and intensity — fine tannins and bright freshness in a wine of remarkable balance and depth. The terroir is very compact white marl, rich in limestone — the grapes harvested by hand from biodynamically farmed vines, vinified entirely naturally with indigenous yeasts and no added sulphur, then aged for more than two years in old demi-muids on fine lees without bâtonnage, bottled unfined and unfiltered. Ganevat's reds, increasingly aged in terracotta jars, have reached a remarkable level — rivals in quality to the celebrated whites of the domaine.
A luminous ruby red in the glass with light garnet highlights; the nose opens with an intense palette of fresh red fruits — cherry and raspberry — accompanied by delicate floral touches of peony and rose, and a light breath of sweet spices. The attack on the palate is supple and delicate, carried by a balanced acidity that energises the wine; fine and silky tannins support a pure, generous fruit through to a long, fresh finish with lovely persistence on spiced and discreetly woody notes. Les Grands Teppes plays in a very Burgundian register — pure, saline and spherical, crystalline, rich.
