Domaine de l'Anglore Tavel 2022

Regular price $128.00

Domaine de l'Anglore Tavel is a legendary, boundary-breaking icon that completely redefines the potential of Southern Rhône rosé. Masterminded by Eric Pfifferling—a former bee-keeper turned cult natural winemaker—this estate has achieved global mythic status for rescuing the historic Tavel appellation from commercial obscurity. While modern Tavel is often technocratic and heavy, Pfifferling crafts a deeply translucent, light-bodied "light red" style that echoes the historical field blends of the region. Composed primarily of old-vine Grenache, complemented by Cinsault, Clairette, and Carignan, the fruit thrives on the appellation’s unique soils of lauzes (white, flat limestone slabs) and sandy alluvial river stones. Pfifferling practices strict organic and biodynamic farming, but it is his cellar work that sets the wine apart: the hand-harvested, chilled grapes undergo a gentle carbonic maceration using native wild yeasts in large, neutral oak foudres. The wine is bottled entirely unfined and unfiltered with zero added sulfur, capturing an ethereal, living energy that is fiercely protected by natural wine connoisseurs worldwide.

In the glass, it pours a stunning, deeply luminous ruby-pink hue with shimmering coral glints, far darker than modern industrial rosés. The nose is instantly seductive, explosive, and uniquely fragrant, unleashing a vibrant bouquet of wild alpine strawberries, blood orange pith, and sour red cherries, seamlessly intertwined with complex nuances of white pepper, hibiscus tea, fresh pomegranate skin, and a distinct hint of damp earth. On the palate, the wine balances weightless elegance with a deeply concentrated, structural core. A juicy, texturally pure wave of crunchy red berries and citrus rind coats the mouth, effortlessly carried by a fine, vibrant spine of natural acidity. The limestone terroir introduces a chiseled, wet-stone mineral weight and a classic, tightly woven phenolic bitterness that provides a clean, driving structure. It finishes with an impressively long, savory crescendo, leaving behind a persistent trail of wild thyme, white pepper, and a mouth-watering, clean salinity.
