Clos Mogador Montsant Com Tu 2018
Clos Mogador 'Com Tu' is an exceptionally elegant, deeply soulful red wine that represents a brilliant exploration of the Montsant DO by the legendary Barbier family of Priorat. Conceived by René Barbier IV and dedicated as a tribute to his mother, Isabelle, the name translates to "Like You," celebrating inclusivity and the universal language of wine. The fruit is sourced entirely from a unique, high-altitude amphitheater of old vines located in the village of La Figuera, a cool-climate haven within a typically hot region. Here, the vineyards are defined by complex soils rich in limestone, clay, and sand—starkly contrasting with the slate (licorella) of neighboring Priorat. The Barbier family farms this site using strict organic and biodynamic practices, fermenting the grapes with native yeasts in large oak vats before a patient maturation in seasoned French oak foudres, aiming to preserve the raw, unadulterated purity of the terroir.
In the glass, it reveals a bright, luminous cherry-ruby hue with brilliant violet reflections. The nose is incredibly fragrant and expressive, opening with an explosive bouquet of wild strawberries, red cherries, and candied hibiscus petals, intricately layered with complex notes of wet clay, white pepper, and fresh Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, the wine delivers a masterclass in weightless power and fluid grace, defying the region’s reputation for heavy brawn. A juicy, remarkably concentrated core of crunchy red fruit is supported by an ultra-fine framework of silky, chalky tannins and a vibrant, mouth-watering line of limestone-driven acidity that provides superb energy. It finishes completely clean, dry, and balanced, leaving a long, elegant trail of mineral dust and red berry freshness.
