Caroline Morey comes from deep Burgundian stock — daughter of the celebrated Chassagne-Montrachet producer Jean-Marc Morey, and wife of Pierre-Yves Colin, with whom she shares a state-of-the-art winery in Chassagne, though the two make their wines entirely separately. She struck out on her own in 2014, inheriting a small share of her father's vineyards, and has since built her seven-hectare domaine up through further family plots and a fermage arrangement with a retiring Santenay producer. While Pierre-Yves is celebrated above all for white Burgundy, it's Caroline who's become the acknowledged red-wine specialist of the two — she vinifies her Pinot Noirs herself, typically with a healthy proportion of whole-cluster fruit, picking early in the cool morning hours and letting fermentation begin naturally with minimal intervention, avoiding heavy colour extraction in favour of purity and lift. This village Santenay is bottled before the next harvest, aimed squarely at drinkers who want a lighter, finer style of Pinot rather than a wine built for decades in the cellar.

The result shows real charm and immediacy: bright strawberry and red fruit lead, with the kind of gentle, appealing perfume that makes it highly digestible and instantly approachable, even in more difficult vintages when it's fully destemmed rather than given its usual whole-cluster treatment. It's medium-bodied and precise rather than powerful, reflecting Caroline's restrained, low-intervention hand. Pour it with roast chicken, charcuterie, or a simple bistro-style dish — this is village Burgundy at its most drinkable, from a winemaker increasingly recognised as one of the finest red-wine talents in the entire Côte de Beaune.
