Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne 2019

Regular price $93.00

Benjamin Leroux is one of the more quietly extraordinary success stories of modern Burgundy. A former régisseur at the celebrated Domaine du Comte Armand in Pommard, he struck out on his own in 2007 to build a micro-négociant based in Beaune, working out of a shared cellar with Dominique Lafon. Unlike conventional négociants, Leroux never buys finished juice — he manages the vines himself or works directly with growers under long-term contracts, often paying by the plot rather than by tonnage to keep full control over ripeness, yields, and farming, with organic or biodynamic practices a non-negotiable clause for every grower he works with. This Bourgogne Rouge draws largely from vineyards in southern Burgundy, rounded out with a portion of fruit from the far more prestigious commune of Vosne-Romanée — a genuine step up in pedigree for a wine carrying the region's most modest appellation. It's aged mostly in neutral oak, a deliberate choice to preserve purity of fruit rather than layer on winemaking.

The result consistently over-delivers for its classification: bright red fruit and savoury, earthy depth sit alongside well-balanced, lifted acidity that carries through to a long, persistent finish. It's a wine built to showcase site and vintage rather than technique — precise, honest, and remarkably transparent for its price point.
