David Duband Echezeaux 2020
David Duband Echezeaux Grand Cru is an extraordinary expression of power and aromatic intrigue, representing the pinnacle of Flagey-Échezeaux finesse. Sourced from 70-year-old vines planted high on the slope in the prized Les Rouges du Bas lieu-dit, this wine captures the cool, limestone-rich terroir of the site. Employing organic viticulture, high whole-cluster inclusion (often around 80–90%), and aging in around 40–50% new French oak, David Duband crafts an Échezeaux that favors dramatic perfume, intricate spice, and weightless structural focus over raw extraction.
The nose opens with a soaring, highly complex bouquet of crushed dark cherries, red currants, and wild strawberries, accented by lifted notes of violet, dried rose petals, exotic tea, and warm baking spices like cinnamon and clove. On the palate, it delivers a generous volume of sappy red fruit underpinned by a firm, fine-grained tannic spine and vibrant natural acidity. Whole-bunch fermentation imparts a subtle herbal-spice top-note and a mouthwatering, chalky texture that carries into a long, saline, and incredibly persistent finish.
