Chateau de Bonnezeaux Inter Val NV

Château de Bonnezeaux has one of the great comeback stories in the Loire. The estate's history in the Bonnezeaux appellation (Anjou, on the Layon) goes back to the 19th century, but the winery shut down in the early 1980s and the vines were abandoned for three decades. In 2012 the Saclier de la Bâtie family decided to bring it back, with their cousin Guyonne Saclier de la Bâtie at the helm, alongside Louis de Bouëxic de Pinieux.

Guyonne trained under the legendary Mark Angeli at Ferme de Sansonnière, working alongside fellow rising star Stéphane Bernaudeau — the two figures most responsible for pioneering biodynamic viticulture and high-quality dry winemaking in an appellation historically permitted only sweet wine. Following that lead, she implemented biodynamic farming at Bonnezeaux and began producing dry Chenin of real precision, quickly building a cult following.

The vineyards sit on the banks of the Layon in the Anjou Noir, on schist, sandstone and phtanite soils that give the wines their signature minerality and ageing potential, farmed close to organic/biodynamic principles with manual harvest and low-intervention winemaking. The first vintage under Guyonne's stewardship to feel truly ready was 2016.
