Charles Van Canneyt Bourgogne 2022

 Best known as the manager and winemaker of his family's legendary estate, Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat, Charles established this boutique micro-négoce project to craft micro-parcels of wine with the same obsessive precision as his grandest crus. Sourced from prized, sustainably farmed old vines spread across optimal clay-limestone parcels on the Côte de Nuits, the hand-picked fruit undergoes a gentle vinification with native yeasts. Aged patiently in French oak barrels with a minimal use of new wood, this Bourgogne is purposely kept fresh, pure, and light on its feet—completely stripped of heavy winemaking artifact to let the raw elegance of the vintage speak clearly.

In the glass, it reveals a brilliant, translucent ruby hue, opening with a wonderfully fragrant and inviting bouquet of wild red berries, sour red cherries, and fresh red currants, accented by subtle hints of damp forest floor, violet petals, and soft baking spices. On the palate, it delivers a masterclass in regional entry-level distinction, feeling remarkably juicy and light-to-medium-bodied while retaining a sophisticated structural grip. A vibrant, mouth-watering core of crunchy red fruit is framed by ultra-fine, chalky tannins and a lively line of limestone-driven acidity that provides superb energy. It finishes completely clean, dry, and mineral-flecked, leaving a lingering, refreshing trail of red berry skin.
