Arnaud Lambert Saumur Rue 2020
Arnaud Lambert Saumur Brézé 'Clos de la Rue' is an incredibly prestigious, single-vineyard monopole that sits at the absolute pinnacle of Arnaud Lambert’s white wine portfolio. Sourced from a prized 2-hectare, south-facing parcel on the iconic hill of Brézé, the vineyard features old Chenin Blanc vines planted between 1965 and 1990. Geologically, this site is a warm microclimate within a cool region, characterized by a top layer of calcareous sand and clay sitting over a solid bedrock of tuffeau limestone. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for two full years on its fine lees in a combination of large oak foudres, older barrels, and concrete tanks, captures a highly concentrated, masterfully integrated expression where the structural framework of the wood completely bows to the intense power of the fruit.
In the glass it reveals a rich, straw-yellow hue, offering a complex and intensely yeasty bouquet of ripe pears, tangerine, white flowers, and potted ginger, subtly framed by a hint of light caramel and smoky reduction. On the palate, it delivers a distinctly Burgundian texture—broad, fleshy, and full-bodied—yet it remains beautifully chiseled and light on its feet thanks to Brézé’s hallmark electric, razor-sharp acidity. A dense core of savory orchard fruit and warm spice is met by a deeply tactile, chalky grip, leading into an exceptionally long, elegant finish that echoes with lemon cake and a striking, saline-driven mineral tension.
