Domaine Tempier Bandol Rose 2024 1.5L
Domaine Tempier is the reference point for Bandol — and for many, for Provençal wine altogether. When Lucie Tempier married Lucien Peyraud in 1936, her father gifted them a farm in Le Plan de Castellet that had been in the family since 1834. Tasting a pre-phylloxera bottle of Tempier Bandol inspired Lucien to research the terroir extensively, and by 1941, thanks to Lucien and neighbouring vignerons, Bandol had its own appellation — Lucien celebrated to this day as the Godfather of Bandol. The rosé is made from approximately 55% Mourvèdre, 25% Grenache and 20% Cinsault — vinified 65% by direct press and 35% by cold maceration, a combination that builds both aromatic complexity and the structural seriousness that sets Tempier apart from every other Provençal rosé. The Mourvèdre, grown on the estate's clay-limestone and marly-sand soils sheltered by the promontory of Castellet, gives the wine a backbone and depth that most rosés simply cannot muster.
A terroir-driven rosé redolent of a Provençal summer — notes of thyme and white peach, and a mouthwateringly salty finish. An intense fruit and floral nose leads to a rounded, full palate with aromas of peach and pomegranate, followed by delicate spice notes and a pleasant freshness born of perfect acid balance. The quality of the work in the vines and the diversity of the terroirs give it an authentic aromatic intensity far from synthetic flavours — the right balance between complexity and freshness, with a beautiful structure and without tannin.
