Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees 2022

Regular price $611.00

Domaine Hubert Lignier is one of the most respected names in Morey-Saint-Denis, now in the capable hands of son Laurent — a winemaker who has steadily elevated quality while remaining faithful to the organic, terroir-driven principles the family committed to in the 1990s. Les Seuvrées is among the most important cuvées in the range both in terms of scale and character. The parcel of 1.02 hectares sits immediately beneath the grand cru Mazoyères-Chambertin on the southern slope of Gevrey-Chambertin, bordering the northern edge of Morey-Saint-Denis — with vines planted between 1938 and 1966, making this one of the oldest vine holdings in the domaine. Laurent employs approximately 20% new barrels for the élevage and around one-third whole bunches across recent vintages.

The position tells you everything about the wine's character. Les Seuvrées displays a darker, more rugged side of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation — a more masculine, meaty style with a super core of dark fruit, wood smoke and a little iron on the finish, with great ageing potential. An intriguing bouquet of red berry fruit, brown spices and hints of Earl Grey — quite complex and mercurial in the glass — the palate medium-bodied, fresh and vibrant with sappy red fruit, fine delineation and a svelte, harmonious, graphite-tinged finish. A more deeply pitched and more sauvage-inflected nose of poached plum and cassis, the succulent, energetic and solidly concentrated medium-weight flavours coating the palate with sappy dry extract, offering fine depth and persistence on the dusty and balanced finale.
