Domaine Francois Mikulski Meursault Le Limozin 2021
Le Limozin is one of the rarest and most compelling wines in the Mikulski range — a cuvée so small it almost doesn't exist. The Limozin plot covers just 0.15 hectares, with vines averaging 65 years of age, and produces only around 600 bottles annually — and only in certain vintages does it appear as a separate bottling at all, otherwise finding its way into the village Meursault blend. The subsoil is fine alluvial river sediment, less rich in limestone than the hillside parcels, making it heavier and more draining — a distinctive signature that places it geographically beneath the premier crus of Genevrières and Charmes, sharing something of both their characters depending on the vintage. The domaine farms organically without certification, and the winemaking philosophy is, as always, to preserve the minerality of the terroir above everything else.
The nose opens with yellow citrus freshness, subtly spiced, before revealing a structural but not hard palate — open flavours that widen toward the finish, with a lovely texture and additional floral character that emerges with time in the glass. The palate shows volume, elasticity and opulence of fruit — full-bodied with a touch of fat, pear penetrated by mandarin, Sichuan pepper and saffron — leaning toward the generosity of Charmes in richer vintages. With age, the wine becomes explosive — releasing aromas of honey, exotic fruit, butter, hazelnut, grilled almonds, aniseed and caramel.
