Domaine Francois Mikulski Chardonnay Bourgogne Blanc 2021

Domaine François Mikulski is Meursault's finest kept secret — an estate whose premier crus and village wines command serious attention, yet whose Bourgogne Blanc consistently outperforms its appellation with an honesty that can only come from proximity to greatness. The Chardonnay vines have been in François's care since 1992, spread across 1.5 hectares of organically farmed lower-slope parcels planted in 1986 and 2005, bordering the Meursault appellation boundary. Aged in oak barrels for ten months then tightened in tank for a further two months before bottling, the wine shares its neighbouring appellation's spirit. The terroir is clay-limestone on the edge of Meursault, lending the wine a freshness and complexity that exceeds what the label would lead you to expect. 

Pale gold with green highlights in the glass, the nose opens with white fruits — pear and apple — alongside delicate acacia blossom, fresh butter and hazelnut. The palate deepens into stewed white fruits, discreet vanilla, a touch of honey and apricot, with a rich and complex character reminiscent of a much more serious address. Concentrated flavours of core fruit and chalk linger long and lovingly — a wine with genuine personality and charm.
