Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Marc de Bourgogne 1994

Regular price $4,489.00

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Marc de Bourgogne is an extraordinarily rare, mythical, and highly collectible artisanal pomace brandy (eau-de-vie de marc) that represents the ultimate post-harvest distillation from the world’s most legendary wine estate. Rather than fermented grape juice, a Marc is crafted from the remaining pomace—the skins, pulp, and seeds left behind in the wooden vats after the estate’s iconic Grand Cru Pinot Noir grapes have completed fermentation and pressing. DRC treats this byproduct with the same obsessive precision as their flagship wines. The pristine pomace is carefully transported to a traditional copper alembic still for slow, artisanal distillation. The resulting clear spirit is then transferred into 100% new French oak barrels (pièces) sourced from the estate's own supply. Instead of a quick bottling, DRC undergoes a patient, hyper-extended maturation process, cellaring the spirit in barrel for a minimum of 15 to 20+ years. This extensive contact with the wood tames the fire of the spirit, coating it in unmatched texturals, aromatic complexity, and a deep mahogany tone.

In the glass, it pours a majestic, deep amber-mahogany color with brilliant coppery highlights and thick, slow-moving tears. The nose is a dizzying, highly complex tour de force, instantly greeting the senses with an intense bouquet of dried figs, prunes, candied orange peel, and dark caramel, seamlessly interwoven with secondary notes of old cigar boxes, rich leather, toasted walnuts, and exotic baking spices like clove and cinnamon. On the palate, the spirit delivers an absolute masterclass in weightless density, completely coating the mouth with a smooth, velvety texture that balances its high alcohol with sheer concentration. A rich core of dark honey, rancio, and espresso bean is effortlessly balanced by a vibrant, warming core and a fine, tannic grip from decades in seasoned oak. It concludes with an eternal, deeply warming finish that leaves behind a persistent, echoing trail of dark cocoa, pipe tobacco, and an elegant, dry spice. An incredibly prized digestif, it represents an ultimate pinnacle for fine wine collectors and spirit connoisseurs alike.
