Thibaud Boudignon Anjou Francoise 2018
Thibaud Boudignon Anjou Blanc ‘à Françoise’ is a masterclass in modern Chenin Blanc, standing among the most singular and breathtaking white wines in the entire Loire Valley. Named in honor of Boudignon’s late mother, Françoise, this cuvée is sourced from a prized parcel of old vines planted on shallow grey schist and volcanic rhyolite soils in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay. Fermented with native yeasts and aged in large Austrian oak casks and 300L cigar-shaped barrels with zero bâtonnage, it represents the absolute pinnacle of biodynamic precision, raw tension, and site expression.
In the glass, it opens with a soaring, highly focused perfume of lemon oil, white peach, and orange blossom, layered alongside crushed slate, chamomile, and an unmistakable signature of gunflint reduction. On the palate, the wine strikes a thrilling contrast between mouth-filling density and laser-like, knife-edged acidity. A concentrated core of orchard fruit, lemon zest, and subtle beeswax gives way to a mouthwatering, highly saline finish with a delicate touch of savoury phenolic grip. Crystalline, electric, and profoundly age-worthy, this is a benchmark collector’s bottle built to evolve effortlessly in the cellar over the next 10 to 15+ years.
