Arnaud Lambert Saumur Saint-Cyr-En-Bourg 2018

Regular price $69.00

Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg is where the Arnaud Lambert story actually begins. In 1996, at forty-six, his father Yves walked away from an entirely different career to return to his roots in Saumur, founding Domaine de Saint-Just at the heart of the Saumur-Champigny appellation. Arnaud joined him in 2005, the pair converted to organic farming in 2009 and biodynamic practices in 2018, and it wasn't until 2017 that these Saint-Cyr vineyards were finally united with the family's Brézé holdings under the single Arnaud Lambert name. This cuvée is drawn from old Chenin Blanc vines — some seventy years of age — rooted in Saint-Cyr's distinctive clay-sand loam over Turonian limestone bedrock, a soil profile that gives wines here a firmer, more precise character than their neighbours in Brézé. Only the best fruit from the vineyard makes the final cut, with the rest declassified; what remains is hand-picked, whole-cluster pressed, and matured for around a year on fine lees in barrel or foudre before further ageing.

The result is exacting, focused Chenin: aromatic and concentrated with white orchard fruit, framed by real freshness and grainy limestone minerality. It's built with real ageing potential — comfortably fifteen years, unfurling honeyed complexity as it matures — while still being remarkably approachable young, a rarity for serious Chenin.
