Jean-Pierre Maldant Bourgogne Blanc 2022
Domaine Jean-Pierre Maldant is a fifth-generation family estate based in Ladoix-Serrigny, at the very foot of the Corton hill — a property that quietly held vineyard responsibilities for the Hospices de Beaune before Jean-Pierre struck out fully on his own in 1998. His son Pierre-François Maldant has overseen vinification since 2010, working a 10-hectare vineyard spread across Ladoix-Serrigny, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Chorey-lès-Beaune and Aloxe-Corton, with cultural practices that favour old-fashioned ploughing and manual harvest throughout. White wine is a relatively recent expansion for the domaine — Pierre-François's father made almost no white wine beyond Corton-Charlemagne and a touch of Bourgogne Blanc, but towards the end of his career began replanting some of the Ladoix vineyards to Chardonnay, a direction his son has pursued further. The Bourgogne Blanc reflects this growing focus on whites from a domaine whose reputation was built overwhelmingly on red Côte de Beaune.
