Francois Confuron-Gindre Vosne-Romanee La Colombiere 2021
La Colombière is one of the most personal wines in the entire Confuron-Gindre range — and its story is inseparable from the generational transition now underway at the domaine. La Colombière is one of the new single-vineyard Vosne-Romanée cuvées introduced under Edouard Confuron's influence, sitting alongside Les Hautes-Maizières as a wine that comes directly under Edouard's control — and on these two cuvées he uses a higher proportion of whole-bunch fermentation than his father, up to 40%, where François prefers not to exceed 25% for the other wines. According to Edouard, La Colombière has less concentration than Les Hautes-Maizières — it is the more delicate, more immediately charming of the two single-lieu-dit village cuvées, a wine whose appeal lies in fragrance and freshness rather than density and structure. The lieu-dit sits on the lower part of the village, with deeper soils that produce an open, generous style across all its growers.
Delicate cherry notes, hints of tangerine, a floral touch followed by a whisper of oak — lean and freshly structured on the palate, medium complexity, with a salty mineral finish: stylish, with genuine potential. The wines have become more approachable, forward and charming under Edouard's direction, though the wonderful terroir always brings a steely mineral character and sinewy tautness behind the opulent fruit. This is the most Pinot-perfumed and immediately seductive wine in the village Vosne range — the one to reach for first, to understand what the Confuron-Gindre style is becoming under the next generation's hand.
