Francois Confuron-Gindre Nuits St. Georges 2021

Regular price $166.00

The Nuits-Saint-Georges is perhaps the most surprising wine in the François Confuron-Gindre range — surprising because of where it comes from. The cuvée comprises four plots on the southern border of Vosne-Romanée, each aged between 15 and 80 years, covering a total surface area of 1.34 hectares — parcels that sit right on the communal boundary, with their feet in Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation soils but their character shaped by proximity to Vosne. The Confuron family have been tending these vineyards for six generations, and the Nuits comes from parcels right on the border of Vosne-Romanée — which explains why the wine has a suppleness and harnessed power reminiscent of its neighbour. Aged for 18 months in part-new small oak, the wine is neither Nuits in its most imposing, structured register nor Vosne in its most perfumed — but something intriguing that sits between both.

Classy and incredibly valued, with energetic red-and-black-fruited aromas and rose petal tones — the bouquet structured and full of flair, built on aromas of ripe dark fruit with hints of forest floor, smoky oak and spice. Sumptuous cherry and dark fruit flavours, huge weight of fruit, leafy and smoky oak, good acidity, mineral overtones and firm but fine tannins — a wine that rewards decanting and, better still, a few years of patience in the cellar. For a fine, polished Nuits-Saint-Georges from old vines on a great boundary terroir, this is one of the Côte de Nuits's most compelling values.
