Domaine Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice 2021
La Justice occupies a specific and fascinating position within the Domaine Marc Roy range — the most structurally serious of Alexandrine's four village Gevrey cuvées, and one whose address is inseparable from its character. The La Justice vineyard is located just behind the estate in the large alluvial fan from the Combe de Lavaux — a terroir that delivers a particular mineral tension and saline edge not found in the other cuvées. Alexandrine identifies the premium vines within this parcel vine by vine, managing yields to produce only small crops of healthy and concentrated grapes — all millerandées, naturally smaller berries than the norm, with greater natural concentration. After hand harvest, she uses traditional techniques to extract the flavours of this unique terroir, maturing the wine in French oak barrels with half being new.
A nose of more dimension — such an invitation. More incisive, more obviously structural than the Vieilles Vignes; wide and melting with flavour, with real complexity already present. You could in all honesty drink this already, but this is a wine to reward your patience — complex, faintly saline in the finish. Gracious, with fine and ripe tannins — quite delicate but deep, with a delightful millerandage character, a saline note and hedonistic tones and mineral stance from the alluvial fan. One of the finest examples of a feminine Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin — the aromatic detail and the elegant tannins impressive at every vintage
