Domaine Edouard Confuron Nuits St. Georges Aux Allots 2021
Aux Allots occupies a privileged position within Nuits-Saint-Georges — not the brooding, tannic south of the appellation, but the elegant north. Situated at the northern limit of Nuits-Saint-Georges, the climat borders Vosne-Romanée and shares that village's aristocratic elegance and aromatic finesse, typical of the great terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. For Edouard, whose family home sits on the Rue de La Tâche in Vosne, this is natural territory — the Confuron family has long farmed these transitional soils, and the wine sits comfortably between the two appellations in character. Edouard follows an organic approach enriched with biodynamic principles, with whole-cluster fermentation used wherever conditions allow, enhancing aromatic expression while preserving freshness and vibrancy.
The result is the most structured wine in the Edouard Confuron village range, yet one that never sacrifices the house hallmark of energy and lift. A delightful mixture of dark red fruit and white pepper spice, with a denser colour and more solid concentration of fruit than the Bourgogne Rouge — blacker fruit, a little more structure, though the tannins remain refined. The use of 50% whole clusters gives the wine a more vertical frame and an additional charge of energy while preserving the purity of the fruit — the kind of Nuits-Saint-Georges that makes you question why this climat has never been elevated to premier cru.
