Domaine Edouard Confuron Coteaux Bourguignons 2021
If the Bourgogne Rouge is Edouard Confuron's calling card, the Coteaux Bourguignons is his most unguarded expression — pure pleasure, uncomplicated and alive. The wine comes from plots in lower Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, built predominantly on Gamay with a portion of Pinot Noir adding a lovely, juicy character, and vinified with a generous share of whole clusters. The Coteaux Bourguignons appellation — which replaced the old Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire designation — permits exactly this kind of Gamay-led blend from across Burgundy, and in Edouard's hands the pedigree of the source plots shines through even at this entry level.
Mid crimson in the glass, with a light dusting of white pepper on the nose and a pretty, vivacious character — there's a sudden burst of lush, fresh strawberry through the mid-palate that is entirely disarming. A touch darker than the Bourgogne Rouge, it shares the same eternal liveliness and energy that defines the Confuron style.
