Domaine Edouard Confuron Bourgogne 2021
Domaine Edouard Confuron is one of the most exciting new addresses in the Côte de Nuits. Edouard comes from the extended Confuron family and is a core part of the Confuron-Gindre estate alongside his father — but at his own domaine, founded with the 2021 vintage, he is free to follow his own vision without constraints. Working across just under two hectares of vines with no fewer than eight different appellations, Edouard already produces remarkably accomplished wines after only a handful of vintages. His direction of travel is clear: a move toward 100% whole-cluster vinification, which in 2024 seems to have set a new and very exciting road — suddenly placing him in the major leagues.
The Bourgogne Rouge is the natural entry point into what Edouard is doing, and it punches well above its appellation. It offers deep fruit for this level — still energetic and tense with a very vivid style — and is a sure bet for an affordable entrance to the magic of Vosne. The judicious use of whole-cluster grapes gives it a lovely lightness and tension, with a vivid mid-palate fruit that makes it a genuine vin de soif — the kind of honest, joyful Pinot Noir that is increasingly hard to find.
