Chatto Wines Pinot Noir Lutruwita 2024
Jim Chatto is revered as one of Australia’s finest winemakers, with a long career in the Hunter Valley and a Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year title in 2019, and Pinot Noir is his personal passion. He moved to Tasmania in 1998 as the first winemaker at Rosevears Estate in the Tamar Valley, met his wife Daisy there, and started the Chatto label in 2000. In 2006, Jim and Daisy bought the Isle vineyard in the Huon Valley, which they planted from 2007 and which remains the heart of the winery. Lutruwita is his regional blend, a high-definition snapshot of the whole island, first made in 2018 under the “Tasmania” label and since renamed. Lutruwita is the palawa kani name for Tasmania. The fruit comes from parcels across the island, including the East Coast, the Derwent Valley, the Coal River Valley, the Huon Valley and Pipers River, and blended into one wine.
The result is perfumed, pure and elegant. Red cherry, red plum and raspberry fruit lead, with dried cranberry, star anise, citrus blossom, amaro and crushed rock, and a fine mineral line, airy and detailed
