Bubb + Pooley Pinot Noir 2023

Bubb + Pooley is the personal passion project of husband-and-wife team Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley — two of Tasmania's most respected winemakers, each with over twenty years of experience making wine across the globe. Anna is the winemaker behind the celebrated Pooley family label, while Justin makes wine for Babo, focused on Italian varieties, and lends more than a hand at Pooley besides. Established in 2021 as what they've called a "side hustle," the label draws predominantly on their own White Kangaroo Road vineyard in the Coal River Valley, supplemented by fruit from trusted neighbouring sites including Brinktop and Mapleton. True to their old-world instincts, the wine is fermented and matured in a considered mix of hand-crafted concrete vessels and French oak puncheons — vessels chosen specifically for how they shape texture rather than flavour — with around 10-20% whole bunches included for perfume and structure, and bottled unfined.

The result is serious yet genuinely delicate — "it's all in the subtlety, the nuance," as one reviewer put it. Expect dark cherry and raspberry fruit meeting jasmine, rose oil, a touch of apricot, warm spice, and something quietly earthy beneath, carried on a finely textured palate with real length.
